Work experience

2004

University of Iceland
Teaching – one 5 unit course for students in the Icelandic department, the Literary Theory Department and the Library and Information Department in “Literature for Children and Young Adults.” Spring term 2004 – approx. 70 undergraduate students.

 

 

2002-2005

Alcoa Inc.
First Office Manager for Alcoa's office in Reykjavík. Duties include arranging travel, providing information, transmitting news related to the Alcoa smelter project in East-Iceland, connecting visiting Alcoans with Icelandic government and local authorities in East-Iceland. Later added on the duties of “Information Co-Ordinator”, overseeing and maintaining Alcoa's Icelandic homepage.

 

 

2000-2002

Teaching three separate evening courses, one 4-week-course on fantasy literature (2002), three 7-week-courses on creative writing (2000, 2001, 2002) and a 6-week-course in Storytelling (2002)

Assisted Dr. Jean Webb, my supervisor, with several tasks and helped to establish a centre for Children's Books. I worked for the Equal Opportunities Centre taking notes for disabled students.in undergraduate classes and proofreading work written by students with dyslexia.

Worked as secretarial assistant to the CEO of Mjólkursamsalan, Mr. Gudlaugur Bjorgvinsson (over 300 employees including subcompanies).

Isport - Party
Own business in Reykjavik , retail (2 shops) and wholesale of fashion clothes and cosmetics. Sold the business in 1994.

IBBY – International Board of Books for Young People
President of the Icelandic section of IBBY International, which operates in 43 countries, from 2000-2002. Board member from 1998-2005.
